Meet the Team
P
Founder and Executive DirectorAs the Founder and Executive Director of Stable Families Advocacy Center (SFAC), _ has dedicated her career to ensuring that families have access to the legal advocacy, support, and resources they need to remain safely together and thrive. After nearly a decade representing children and parents in Washington, DC, she founded SFAC to address a critical gap in the legal and social service landscape: the absence of an interdisciplinary, prevention-focused model that supports families before crises lead to unnecessary separation.
Throughout her career, [Your Name] has represented children as a guardian ad litem, advocated for parents in child welfare investigations, and provided legal advocacy to families facing housing instability, educational barriers, public benefits challenges, and family law matters. These experiences offered her a unique perspective from every side of the child welfare system and reinforced a simple but powerful belief: families are strongest when they receive meaningful support before they enter crisis.
Her work has consistently centered on protecting the constitutional rights of parents and children, advancing racial equity, and addressing the systemic barriers that disproportionately affect Black families and communities experiencing poverty. She believes that lasting change requires more than legal representation alone: it requires coordinated advocacy, trusted relationships, and holistic support that recognizes the dignity and strengths of every family.
In addition to founding SFAC, serves as ___ of the District of Columbia's Citizens Review Panel, where she works alongside community members and system leaders to strengthen child welfare policies and improve outcomes for children and families throughout the District.
Through SFAC, she is leading the development of a first of its kind interdisciplinary family advocacy organization in Washington, DC. One that brings together legal advocacy, social work, parent advocacy, youth mentorship, and healing-centered services to prevent unnecessary family separation, help families build long-term stability, and, when separation cannot be avoided, advocate for safe reunification and stronger, healthier family relationships.
She founded SFAC with the conviction that every family deserves the opportunity to heal, remain together whenever safely possible, and build a future rooted in stability, dignity, and hope.
The Board of Directors
Tyhesia Washington, LCSW
Tyhesia Washington is a licensed clinical social worker serving clients in Texas, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Throughout her career, she has supported children, adults, and families through school-based services, mental health treatment, and child advocacy work.
Tyhesia brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her role as chairperson of the Stable Families Advocacy Center. As a child, she entered the foster care system at a young age and later joined her adoptive family, an experience that shaped her lifelong commitment to strengthening and supporting families. Like many children and families involved in the child welfare system, her journey was marked by uncertainty, trauma, and instability. Those experiences deepened her belief that families deserve holistic support, dignity, and every opportunity to remain safely together whenever possible.
While earning her master’s degree in social work, Tyhesia participated in a child welfare scholarship program and completed interdisciplinary training alongside attorneys and social workers focused on addressing systemic barriers affecting families. Through this work, she witnessed firsthand how fragmented systems can create additional challenges for families seeking support. Her experience supporting guardians ad litem within the District of Columbia child welfare system further strengthened her belief that families are best served when legal, emotional, and practical support are integrated into one coordinated approach.
Tyhesia is honored to serve as chairperson of the board and help advance Stable Families Advocacy Center’s mission. She firmly believes that families are strongest when they are supported as a whole and is committed to helping create systems that empower families to remain safely together whenever possible.
